Dorset Days

Friday 27th May

Stressful work day and packing. Tired with broken sleep and needy children. J’s work is tough and relentless at the moment (when is it not?). Finally set off by 9 for a late arrival in Dorset. Lovely cottages although indecision about which best suits whom. Never good at decisions at the best of times!

Saturday 28th May

Woke to discover everyone here – great excitement and children immediately got stuck into the important task of playing.

Wedding of cousins Heidi and Roger. Beautiful setting, lovely service (shame it started 45 minutes late!), stunning weather, fantastic reception…even managed a few dances at the end of the night:-) Shame I was totally and utterly broken by the last few weeks (years?) but we all have to hit a wall at some point I guess??

Sunday 29th May

Incredible weather. Fabulous relaxed morning enjoying the suntrap of a courtyard, feeding the alpacas, runs, swimming…. Set off for a walk down from the coast to the beach. Didn’t actually make it to the beach as the path was too overgrown but instead, discovered the most perfect field of buttercups and wildflowers for an extended picnic and play.

Tuesday 31st May

Burton Bradstock. Incredible sandstone cliffs and fine shingly beach. PAddling and playing. Building sandstone towers and sculptures. Collected stones and seaweed. Proper ice creams and kite flying.

Wednesday 1st June

Swam& ran in the morning. Marshalls cycled to Sea View. Rest of us had a wonderful time wandering the little lanes and art exhibitions of Lyme Regis, old water mill, old sea forts. Fish and chips on the beach. Harbour and a walk along the impressive harbour walls. Back via the The National Gallery of Lyme Regis (we rather stumbled upon) with its fabulous garnde and swing and eclectic collections. Inspiring.

Back to swim and to see Rosie. Tea outside in the sunshine again. Girls loving the bunkbeds in our cottage – which is growing on me!

Thursday 2nd June

Swimming (of course!). Climbed to top of Golden Cap with a picnin at the top. Walked back through woods on Langdon Hill. Playtrail and wooden music chimes, tunnel.

Cycled on top of stonebarrow Hill. Fast cycling and slalam course! Frances enjoying her first ‘go’ on a balance bike. Need to finally walk first! (she is happy enough scaing the climbing frame….!) BAck for more swimming and tea outside in the sun.

Friday 3rd June

Lots of playing after a last swim. Packed up. Stopped at Cogden beach for a play and picnic. Suffered terrible traffic to get home but made it – minus the Follows – to enjoy playing in the garden and an outside tea.

Saturday 4th June

Played. Walked and cycled through to Hook reserve via ‘Rhodadendrum Way’ past the church. Back for more playing in the garden, den in the Oak Tree. Picnic tea and ice creams.

Monday 30th May

Charmouth beach. Fossils. Sandcastles. Picnics. Playing. Paddling. Happy days indeed. Runs/swimming etc to start the day, with good food, company and wine to finish it.
