Monday 29th August
Bank holiday. Family day. Happy days. Had planned all sorts of things, like getting ferry to Isle of Wight etc. But actually we were tired. And realised that it was the last day of ‘Open Studios’. And getting trains and boats is fun…but not at the end of a day when all the children are tired too and school looms the next day.
New plan: Cycled to Abshot barn, wonderful venue to see some inspiring work by local artists. Girls enjoyed having a browse, and the apple cake. Not sure which more. Great ideas for making with driftwood
Next, on to Chilling. Got down to the beach for high tide. Paddled, bit of a dip for Daddy (bit too rocky for the girls – me too. After West Wittering and Swanage it didn’t really live up to the mark!) Picnic lunch and shell collecting. Cycled on over the cliff top to Meonshore and around to Hill Head. Enjoyed ice creams and cuppas in the garden at the visitor centre and the girls enjoyed the treat of choosing a little present in the shop – thought they deserved it after such good cycling!
Stunning afternoon light to cycle back along the cliffs and home. Finished it off with a well deserved pub tea, enjoying the early evening sunshine, bouncy castle that happened to be in the pub garden, and chips!!
Best bit was working out that the girls had cycled 11 miles. Go girls. Not bad for a 6 and just-4 year old. F was v happy too, bouncing along in the seat on the back of my bike. Tag along next step for her perhaps. Happy times.
